The Poetry of
Jack Scott

Stations of the Clock

Isness is a fine place to be.
Whatever seems to happen there
comes up only to your knee.

Wasness is more personal and local,
but won’t stay where you put it.

Maybeness rises tidally
from a deep-dreamt sea,
recedes reluctantly.

Mightness is of other worlds
inaccessible by normal means,
if possible at all.

Willness is the future tense,
where wasness and isness are,
and maybeness and mightness could be.
