The Poetry of
Jack Scott

Charles

You don’t rush
toward the end of play,
with script in hand,
your lines in mind.
You play each scene
as if discovering it
a second time- déjà vu.
You savor it,
insisting that the flavor last
on your tongue forever,
then exchange it
for the next moment,
again and then again
so that curtain
will be a fresh surprise
every single time.
