The Poetry of
Jack Scott

Beautiful Lady

Beautiful lady,
ancient of pose,
dining on money,
hiding in clothes.
You are all that you were
except that it froze.

Your body is splendid.
Her name is Pandora.
She suns in Elysium,
never Gomorrah.
The thought behind the one you affect;
dare you show it?
Your loneliness has a name;
do you know it?

I like the way you are about to be.
It makes me hold my breath,
I’d like to rise to your occasion.
I hope that someone will.

You need a helping hand,
a pat upon the back.
While someone else is doing that,
I’d like to bite your ass
