The Poetry of
Jack Scott

Homocrotalus

Left hand seeks refuge within the frame.
Cage of rattlesnake,
painted by the right hand,
intrudes on rattlesnake
drawn to hand by other hand
and its native hunting sense
of heat and motion.
Painted rattlesnake produces fangs,
one brushstroke at a time,
just two
and done
Done with,
the crimson brush
falls to the spattered floor.
Painter, painted is no more.
