The Poetry of
Jack Scott

Greek Wurlitzer

Black music
Greek Wurlitzer
squid deaths in fetid air
dry suicides
finger tugawar with heads
gutted bee
plucked strings
chickens drying
hanging on a slowly moving line
black blood
not red, not fresh
gluie black
dripping death
kicking at a melody older than life
old as word: OLD
as the word, black
old as death
black beyond
and back
and forth
Zorba Brotherhood
of man
and man
and man
and man
and man
and man
and man
a dime at a time
left, a nickel
right, a nickel back
for god’s sake feed it dimes or stop the nickels
